Refresh the working end regularly. Research has found that a freshly exposed Miswak tip releases much more of a naturally occurring compound called BITC than the same working tip when repeatedly reused.
Rinse the fibres after use and keep your Miswak in a cool, clean and well-ventilated place. Avoid sealing heavily wet fibres for long periods.
There is no fixed lifespan. It depends on how often you use it, how it is stored and the individual stick. Replace it when it becomes too short, deteriorated or no longer pleasant or effective to use.
